Curriculum Kindergarten
Faith Alive, our Bible curriculum, is used for all age levels. It is a highly visual and activity oriented program that helps communicate the Word of God at an appropriate age level. Each week our young learners are introduced to a Bible story, basic Christian concepts, and a weekly Bible memory verse. Every morning the children meet together for morning devotions, which include singing and praying before they go to their class. A member of the church staff shares with the children during morning devotions once a week. Parents are encouraged to join us for our morning devotion time.

Reading and Phonics

Reading - Read, Write and Listen is our basic reading program. This curriculum is composed of 24 letterbooks. Some of the skills that are learned:

  • Shape of the letter

  • Sound of the letter in the initial, medial and final position of a word

  • Letter sounds that build to form words, sentences and stories

  • Reading words, sentences and stories

  • Auditory recognition and discrimination

  • Writing letters, words and sentences

Long vowel sounds and diagraphs are introduced to increase the students reading vocabulary.

Sight words/high frequency words are also introduced to increase the students reading vocabulary. Mystery words and sentences are words and sentences that the students read, write and illustrate to practice sight and high frequency words.

Creative Literature Implementation Program (C.L.I.P.) is another way of bringing literature in the classroom. Each age level has a special literature book for every month. This is a whole language approach to learning. The teacher pulls ideas for everything from cooking to science to social studies from the C.L.I.P. book.

Unit- Unit consists of special emphasis from C.L.I.P. (science and social studies), and seasonal themes.

Journal Writing- The goal of journal writing is to get the student thinking more about how letter sounds form words. During journaling the student is encouraged to work independently to form words and sentences.

Spelling- Spelling is introduced half way in the school year. It consists of a list of 5 rhyming words and a bonus word.

Homework- Homework is assigned on Monday and returned to school on Friday. Homework includes 2-3 of the following: writing practice, phonics, math reading, spelling and Bible verse memorization.
